Shoplifting Chocolate?
Hello, I was caught shoplifting chocolate at Zehrs two days ago. A police officer came and gave me a court date. The amount that I stole was $300. I really regret doing this, but at the time it was hard for me to control because I suffer from Bulimia and I crave sweet foods very badly. I am 19 years old and live in Waterloo Ontario… This is my FIRST time being in trouble with the law….
1) How likely is it that the judge will not convict me ( I dont get a criminal record) and just gives me fine/community service hours, if I am very regretful and sincerely apologetic?
2) Do I absolutely need a lawyer?
It would help you greatly to get a lawyer, and fast. You should have eaten the evidence. Since this is your first offense, you are not likely to do hard time. Community service is the most likely outcome. But a lawyer, if he/she is good might get the case dismissed.
